You should avoid it if you fit the description below;
- This is not ideal for persons with rather larger head sizes

Our Rating: 4.5/5
This gives you a premium bone-conducting headset that gives you all the features you need. Our rating caters to anyone who is looking to own an open-ear headset, to listen to music on the go. If this is what you want, then check it out.
Here are some of the main features most people have rated highly or poorly about the AfterShokz Aeropex Mini:
Hear what is going on around
It makes hearing just about everything that goes on around you, as easy as listening, with the added advantage of being able to simultaneously listen to music or podcast at the same time.
This makes exercising outdoors more fun to do. You can be fully aware of people, pets, and vehicular movements around you.
No need to be afraid of stalkers suddenly approaching you, with your ears fully covered by earbuds, as the open ear design keeps your ears free to listen to everything around.
You can avoid all those breathtaking near misses on the road, someone coming up close to you till you turn your head around, or dogs running into you n the walkways.
This is an area where open-ear headphones fare much better than earbuds. This makes an active lifestyle a breeze, from biking, paddle boarding, running, shadowboxing, and even weightlifting, it can be a nice addition to your regimen.
More fun to do dishes with, as you can be cooking and listening to audiobooks or podcasts, and not have to worry about your loud Air Conditioner or the sound of your high-speed fan drowning out the home theater system or the portable Bluetooth speaker.
You may need to pick up on cooking sounds (boiling water, preheated oven, cooking timers with loud alarms, etc.).
Worse still when you are using regular earphones or earbuds, they make it difficult to hear your pets (e.g. cat’s bell) as they wander off to where they ought not to be, or when your doorbell chimes.
Background Noise
It does a fairly decent job at isolating most background noise, importantly when you are making or receiving a phone call.
As your callers get to hear you and you can also hear them, even much more clearly without so much background noise interfering with your calls.
This does a much-improved job at reducing to minimal extent background noises, than some other Bluetooth devices.
If you want a more immersive experience with audiobooks, music, or podcasts, you can make use of earplugs to block out most sound in your background, such as your kids or partner playing video games.
Audio Quality
The audio quality is more than decent, though not as great as you’d expect in most premium conventional headphones or earbuds. It is a simple trade-off between ultimate audio quality for practicality and comfort.
An important design feature for the Open ear headset is the ability to listen to music and also hear your surroundings.
However, it works just as well with a pair of premium quality earplugs (which comes with the packaging), especially if you want to keep out of hearing very loud noises.
Note that if you do use earplugs, you can switch the EQ settings, by holding both volumes up and down buttons. This can improve the audio quality of the sound when you use earplugs.
It still suffers from a much-needed base, as expected of bone conduction headphones.
The sound quality is the same as that of the standard Aeropex.
If you do like a lot of loud music, you should be aware that at higher sound volumes, the levels of vibrations can get to be rather unpleasant.
There’s much-reduced sound leakage, so most people around you can’t hear what you’re listening to.
If you’re an Audiophile this may not make your list, of top recommendations for a Bluetooth headset.
Just don’t buy this, if you’re looking for the very best in quality sounds. You’re better off choosing other Bluetooth headsets, such as the Bose Sport Open Ear or others.
Phone calls
It works just as well for teleconferencing and phone calls.
The inbuilt microphone works well too. If you need to use them for business calls, you should find the mic performs creditably well with its noise cancellation.
At worst you may get minimal complaints from your callers, especially when you’re making calls in very noisy places.
It delivers voice clarity, without blurring you and your callers’ voices out, with background noise.
Making hands-free phone calls is much easier, as you may soon find yourself making almost all your phone calls through the headset.
You don’t even have to be near your smart devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android devices, smart watches, laptops, PC, etc.) to answer phone calls.
With simple touches on the multifunction button, you should enjoy chatting more frequently. You may not bother with squealing hearing aids, and not worry about having to always remove your hearing aids to use the headset.
You get to enjoy longer talk time on your phone calls, with extended battery life.
Back of the head
Quite a number of people with smaller head sizes complained about the Original Aeropex, for wobbling and moving around too often as they moved their heads.
The Aeropex Mini is a smaller snuggly fit for most persons with smaller head sizes, as they do not move around often nor do they wobble around their heads.
This is because of the smaller band size on the Mini, in contrast to the larger band size of the original Aeropex which made it stick out at the back than most people were comfortable with.
The distance at the back of your head, behind both of your ears, should be 9.25 inches or less to comfortably wear the Aeropex Mini.
This explains why some persons with rather large heads find the Mini to be more comfortable than the standard.
So long as the distance between the back of your ears stays at 9.25 inches or less, even if your head is rather big, you should find the Mini a snug fit.
It fits much better, and you can wear it alongside your hats, helmets, and sunglasses when you are having fun or exercising outdoors.
Even wearing it with your hoodies, sweater shirts, collared T-shirts, winter hat, or beanie, is more comfortable, as it does not hang off of the back of your head.
Lying down in bed is made more pleasurable as the Mini fits much better.
This is in comparison to the standard Aeropex which was pushed up and out of position more often when lying down, with or without using a pillow.
Wireless Connectivity
The wireless Bluetooth connectivity works well too, not much to complain about here.
Most other Bluetooth headphones randomly disconnect, while you’re running or moving from one room to another.
With the Mini, you can move freely in your house, without having to worry about random disconnection.
You also get the multipoint Bluetooth pairing option, which lets you connect to 2 Bluetooth-enabled devices.
It lets you connect to your smartphones or your smartphone (iPhone, Android, Tablet) and or other smart devices (Mac, PC, Amazon Echo, etc.)
With this you can listen to music from either of them in turns, and also receive notifications from both of them.
As such you wouldn’t miss your calls, notifications, and reminders (outlook).
You can move about 25 to 33 feet from your devices before you begin to experience distortions.
When paired to 2 devices such as your phone and PC, if you walk far away from your PC carrying your phone with you.
You would hear loud beeps every 20 seconds or thereabout, for 5 cycles till it stops by itself.
This lets you know you’re out of range of the other Bluetooth device. You can just turn it off and on to stop the beeps.
It does not automatically reconnect when you have been far away from your PC. You will need to switch it off and on for it to reconnect to both devices.
PROS AND CONS
Pros
- Good sound quality for bone conduction
- Long battery life
- Smaller head fitting
- Waterproof, Sweatproof & Dust Resistant
Cons
- Proprietary charger
- Only sold in black

AfterShokz Aeropex Mini Review

- IP67 Waterproof Rating – Completely sweat and waterproof. Moisture detection alert included for safe charging. (Not suitable for swimming)
- Multifunction Button – Easy controls to play, pause, skip, activate voice assistant, and answer calls.
Open-Ear Design
Patented bone conduction technology delivers premium audio through the cheekbone, keeping you connected and aware of your surroundings.
The open ear design lets it bypass the outer ear and deliver sounds to the inner ear.
This works by the use of transducers on the base of the headset, where it attaches firmly to the cheekbone, from where it passes along audio as vibrations through the cheekbone to the bone (cochlea) lining the inner ear.
This lets you keep your ears open, as you move around and yet be able to enjoy some audiobooks, music, or podcasts. A strong point bone conduction headset has over in-ear or over the earphones like the Apple Airpods.
Hearing what goes on around you is very important especially if you are outside on the trail biking, backpacking on mountainous ranges, hiking along hills, jogging or running on the highways, or working out in the gym, or in the busy offices.
This makes it pretty hard for someone to sneak up on you, as you should be aware of their movements before they get too close to you.
A plus for the design is the option to use earplugs if you want to shut yourself in to block out outside sounds or noise, whenever you so desire.
This also works great when you want to go weed whacking or grass trimming, metal bending or woodworking, or spray painting.
You can also listen to audio in very noisy environments, even as you work with very noisy power tools.
Light & Comfortable
Experience unmatched comfort with our most lightweight and comfortable headphones. Aeropex Mini features a 0.5-inch smaller band for a more snug fit.
It is pretty lightweight at 26 grams and sits comfortably with smooth edges on the jawbone.
The Mini features a much smaller full-wraparound titanium frame and band, which is 0.5 inches smaller than the standard Aeropex headset.
The much-reduced size makes it more snuggly fitting for people with smaller hat sizes.
Thus, you can wear it for longer periods of time during the course of the day.
It feels so comfortable that a lot of people actually forget it on their heads as they go about their daily business, only to be reminded they still have the headset on when they receive a phone call.
It stays where you place it, not moving much as you move around or make sudden rapid movements.
It will not fall out of place if you get sweaty as you work out like you commonly experience with Airpods jiggling loose and slipping out your ears.
This feels more comfortable than most wired bone conduction headsets.
It also does not get in your way as it comes wireless, giving you the freedom to move around just the way you want it.
With a face mask on, sunglasses, a hat, or a winter beanie, it can fit in well alongside them.
Eight Hours of Music & Calls
Enjoy 8 continuous hours of music and dual noise-canceling mics for crystal clear calls.
You get longer-lasting battery life on a full charge of about 2 hours, lasting you about 8 hours during the course of your day, liberating you to enjoy music on the go and not have to be tied down to a charging cord from time to time due to frequent use.
Your device tends to outlast your working day; you’ll hardly get to run down the battery life before you get a convenient time to recharge it.
It comes with its dedicated charger; you get 2 magnetic induction chargers, each about 2 feet long. Most people leave one charger at home and the other in their office, so they can always have access to charge, whenever they need it.
However, it does not include a charging plug. You stop worrying about having to move around with different cables that may get missing along your frequent routes.
Thus, you don’t need to start pre-ordering a spare charging cable, since you get one more as an extra.
In comparison to the Apple Airpods, the battery life of the Aftershokz Aeropez Mini headset itself last much longer.
The battery on the Airpod itself has a shorter battery life, and you will have to frequently return it to its charging case to charge. The Airpod charging case; lets you get several charges from it during your day.
However, it can be very annoying to have to return the earpieces to the charger, almost every hour to recharge them. The Mini lets you go on long stretches of your day, without you bothering to want to recharge it.
You also get to experience its dual noise-canceling mics, which lets you make clearer calls even in very busy and noisy environments.
IP67 Waterproof Rating
Completely sweat and waterproof. Moisture detection alert included for safe charging. (Not suitable for swimming)
You get a device that is waterproof, which makes it completely impervious to water or sweat, it is also dust resistant as well.
Its moisture detection alert system lets you know if there’s water, especially on its magnetic charging plate for a much safer charging experience.
You can use it in the shower to listen to music as you bathe, and not worry about water entering into and spoiling your headset.
You can keep working without having to be worried about sweat entering into and spoiling your precious headset.
This feature makes it alone, stand head and shoulders above previous generations of Aftershokz bone conduction headsets, such as the Titanium models and the Air headset.
However, while it is safe for everyday use with/around water, it is not recommended for swimming. You should look to get the Aftershokz OpenSwim (Xtrainerz) for a waterproof headset that works well underwater.
Multifunction Button
Easy controls to play, pause, skip, activate voice assistant, and answer calls.
You get an easy-to-use flat Multifunction button on the left-hand side.
With simple pushes on the Multifunction button you can play, pause, fast-forward and rewind on a podcast you’re listening to, skip tracks, answer or drop calls, and activate and control your favorite voice assistant.
The button’s bulge is rather small, which helps to prevent unwanted rubbing or touches that may interfere with your current use of the headset, such as pausing or skipping whatever you may be listening to or accidentally ending a phone call.
The size of the button is adequate for most fingers to use and control, however, the size may be rather small for some people with very large fingers and fingertips. It also does not come with any subtle bumps to help with a more tactile feel when you use it.
Though all buttons are easy to assess, the multifunction button can be quite difficult to reach and use under most cycling helmets.
Overall, the open ear design makes this very comfortable to wear all day if needed, and lets you hear callers or listen to music without completely disconnecting from the world around you.

Customer Feedback
Below we showcase balanced feedback from actual customers. They have written down their reviews from their own personal experiences with the use of the Aftershokz Aeropex Mini headset.
We sourced them from across the web.
Positive Feedback
A smaller version of the original aeropex, a good headset for daily use.
If your head is smaller, then this should be a good choice for you to try out.
They do fit tighter than the standard aeropex, but the thing is there’s reduced contact between headband and the collar of my shirts, as well as when I lie flat of the Flybird gym bench during bench press.
I can fully recommend the aeropex mini headpones, they are great for listening to audio content, like podcasts as you go about daily chores. They also work well for teleconferencing and for regular phone calls.
The sound is definitely no the best that I have ever heard, especially when compared to regular headphones, but considering what you concede to it in audio quality is made up for in function and convenience.
Bone conduction lets you listen to music, as well as hear things going on around you simultaneously, but can also work with earplugs when you want to keep out noise. Whenever you use earplugs, always remember to change the EQ, as it will make them sound much better with the earplugs.
Like the standard aeropex, it also uses a proprietary magnetic connector to charge, which I clearly didn’t like it at first. Overtime, I got used to it and they also provide you with 2 cables at once in the pack, so no need to buy an extra spare charger.
Finally, the water resistance of the headset is the real deal. I wear them everyday and I have had no troubles from using them in the shower or during a rain fall.
However, I did notice that the mic of the headset does take sometime to work well, whenever they do get wet. I must assume that is because water does get into the hole of the mic, and may need to fully dry out to function properly.
The aeropex mini is an awesome headphone, and I think it is worth a try for anyone, especially very active people or athletes. If the mini is too small for you, you should pick up the original aeropex.

Critical Feedback
To start, let me make myself clear by saying I absolutely love these! They work well for listening to podcast and audio books and playing music in the background without a using a noisy speaker.
As you may be aware already, the headphones don’t treat bass well and the sound quality for listening to music is manageable (you can improve the sound with earplugs), but bone conduction headphones sound quality cannot compare to other headphones on the market, well they were not designed for that.
For me, I prefer using them to listen to podcasts and audiobooks while I cook, compared to using my loud speaker, as the sound of the exhaust fan often drowns them out. I always want to listen out for the cooking sounds (my cooking timers, to water boiling, and the oven being preheated, etc) so I can’t rely on regular headphones.
I like listening to music as I work and thes work well for that too, as well as with my voice assistant as I no longer have to scream (no google, I said skiop, not skype!). I can hear my cat’s neck collar bell and track his movement to prevent it from straying into danger.
Something I noticed while using the headphones, was that they were very comfortable and gave me no ear fatigue or discomfort! I love riding my bike with these on.
While, these cute headphones work GREAT for multitasking, they do have some drawbacks.
- My pair of headphones did not work well with Teams. Though some of my colleagues had no issues with their, just could not make mine work right every time.
- The are always these very loud UI beeps (when you press play, pause, volume up/down) and there is no way to change that.
Though those did annoy me, but I do not regret buying the headphone. I find them to be very comfortable, such that I forget that I am still wearing them, even with my face packed full with my eyeglasses and a face mask when I go grocery shopping with hands filled with shopping bags.
