Tayogo S2 – Our Rating: 4.0/5

Looking through some of the reviews of the Tayogo S2 headphones.

While the reviewers’ responses have been openly positive towards the headphones.

We have been able to sort through the negative and positive reviews and give our own rating from the varying reviews.

Here are some of the main features most people have rated highly or poorly about the Tayogo S2 Wireless Headphone:

Battery life

a mobile phone showing the battery level of a bone conduction headset, and being wraparound by a tayogo headphone. The picture also sows that the battery life of the tayogo wireless s2 headset will last 8 days on standby, and 6 hours with music playing, and 6 hours on phone calls.

On a full charge, you get about 5 to 6 hours of battery life.

It also charges rather quickly with its quick charge feature, which lets it deliver about an hour of battery life on a single 15-minute charge time.

This battery life ranges between 5 to 6 hours, depending a lot on the volume levels, usually between the 60 – 70 percent volume range.

This is sufficient enough for most daily activities, so long as you’re not using it for longer than it is recommended, you won’t have much of an issue with it.

The battery life is on par with what you would expect with other Bluetooth headsets.

Comfort

It fits well with your sunglasses, facemask, hat, or beanie. If you’re out exercising or for a dog walk, you’ll be able to listen to music and still keep your ear open to hear all that’s going on around you.

In comparison to older over-the-ear headphones like the Plantronics headset, which had very a set of earbuds that enter into your ears, or the newer in-ear headphones which hurts a lot, giving you so much discomfort as the day progresses and are there uncomfortable on a hot day.

The S2 headset feels rather very comfortable that you’ll more often forget you’re wearing it on your head.

Moisture-wicking

The S2 comes with an IP55 certification; this means that your headset is protected from dust, sweat, and from minor water ingress.

You won’t have to worry about a sand storm destroying your headset or a sudden rainfall putting your headset to sleep.

However, don’t use your S2 in the shower or at the swimming pool as it is not waterproof.

the S2 wireless tayogo bone conducting headphone, demonstrating it is sweat proof, and reproduces a super stereo sound quality

Sound quality

The Tayogo S2 bone conduction headphone unlike traditional headphones, passes vibrations directly into the inner ear, without going through the eardrums.

This also affects the quality of the sound, the headphone produces.

Thus the quality of the sound is not as good as what you would expect with conventional headphones.

However, the quality is decent enough to enjoy listening to music or podcast.

The sound quality is also affected by the loudness of noises in any particular environment.

This happens because of the open-ear design of the headset which lets you continuously listen to sounds in your surroundings.

If you are in a very loud environment, you’ll need to increase the volume of the headset to balance out the ambient noise.

This can lead to some discomforting experiences, like thicker vibrations from the headset on the head.

The bones were not designed to listen to music, that’s the job of the ears.

Thus sound quality varies as frequencies can get distorted, so you won’t experience top-notch audiophile quality.

Also in comparison to the branded Shokz (formerly Aftershokz) headphone series, such as the Aeropex or OpenComm, it does not outperform them, and only comes an inch closer.

You get the feel of listening to sounds from a couple of speakers at a distance, with little bass for a decent performance.

It works well with certain genres of music, like classical music especially if you have a ton of your favorite composers, and does fair enough for other genres.

You do get to notice some sound leakages and more at higher volumes.

If you move closer to people, they may be able to listen to what you are hearing on the headset.

the tayogo bone conduction s2 headphone showing the features of bluetooth v5.0, lightweight, sweat proof, long battery life and true wireless. As well as the applications of where to use the headset, such as running, cycling, driving, working and at the gym.

At this range, the volume levels will be high enough to cause vibrations, but not many sound distortions may be noticed.

You can easily pair it automatically with your phone when it rings.

The sound quality appears sufficient enough; your callers will hear you clearly when you are in a calm environment.

You also get a pair of earplugs with the S2 headphone; this may improve the audio quality when you want to shut yourself to the world around you.

For working out

If you’re outdoor biking or jogging, it lets you hear the traffic around you, or when you’re hiking you can easily pay attention to movements around your improving your chances of safety.

a young man riding a bike on a less busy street opposite a glass house building, listening to songs via his s2 wireless tayogo headset

At the gym, you can listen to music as you work out and hear your instructors giving you guidance and warnings.

Also, you do not have to worry about sweaty ears, your headphones slipping out of your ears, or sliding off your head as you bend forwards or back.

If the gym is quieter than most, this works fine.

Noise-cancelation

Though the level of noise in your environment will determine the quality of sounds you hear.

As the headphone does not offer a huge deal on noise-canceling and was designed to maintain an open ear.

You may be surprised by the quality of the calls, as most people will hear your voice clearly, comparable to using the mic on your smartphone.

It is best when you make calls/receive from quieter areas, so your callers may hear you more clearly, and you can also feel comfortable making calls with it.

Tayogo S2 Verdict

As we have pointed out the main features you get with the Tayogo S2 Headphone.

We think you may have a liking for this headset for what it gives; a simplistic open ear and a very lightweight design to match a decent audio performance.

These features have generated the most attention and commentary, thus you should be getting a headset that ticks all the boxes, for what you may desire from a bone-conducting headphone.

This means you get an out of the box ready to use waterproof headphones, which should fit into your daily performance schedules.

You should watch out for some sound distortions at very high volumes.

Fit is slightly looser than other brands of similar headsets.

The quality feels a bit cheaper than most. Overall for the price they offer a lot of value for your money.

Great value, if you want to give a true bone-conduction headphone a trial.

Features

  • Bone Conduction Technology
  • Open Ear Design
  • One size fits all frame
  • Bluetooth 5.0 Connectivity and Multipoint Pairing

Bone Conduction Technology

The technology behind bone conduction headphones works by transferring sounds via the bones, as opposed to going through the ear canal to hear sounds.

The sound is transmitted as vibrations, passing through bones, direct to the inner ear.

Bone conduction headphone works also in helping people with some forms of hearing impairment, to listen to music.

So long as your inner ear nerves are functional, you may be able to hear music or your favorite audio programs with the headphones.

This helps protect your eardrums from frequent bombarding with noise from headphones, which have been well noted to be a cause of deafness, especially in younger adults.

a diagram of the tayogo headphone showing the bone conduction design and the sounds are transmitted as vibrated through the cheek bones

Open Ear Design

The open ear design helps in its delivery of music through your cheekbones, while also ensuring our ears will remain completely open and free to listen for ambient sounds.

This helps you stay alert in any environment, so you can easily avoid danger from ongoing traffic on the road when dog walking or biking.

Keeping yourself safe when hiking outdoors, or hearing helpful and timely instructions at the gym,

At home listening to your kids or your pets sneaking into where you don’t want them to be or your doorbell ringing while cooking in the kitchen, and also be able to enjoy music at the same time.

This also helps to protect you from ear infections, since you don’t have to put anything in your ears.

If it is uncomfortable with using earbuds in your ears.

You get all sweaty and develop some soreness from having anything in your ears.

This is even more common during hot weather.

Another advantage you get with it is that you don’t have to be worried about always having to look for your earbuds when exercising and working out, whenever they fall out of your ears during sudden head movements.

One size fits all frame

They are non-adjustable headphones.

You get a band that loops behind your head, closer to your neck.

This size lets it fit comfortably for most people.

Except if you do have a very small or large head size, this should sit comfortably when placed on the side of your head.

Thus, you won’t have to be bothered looking for the smallest or largest frame for individual heads.

This also means you can share the headset with your peers, friends, or family members especially when you want them to hear whatever music or podcast, you are currently listening to on the headset.

You also get a durable frame that can easily resist violent bending, ensuring you can use it for a long time before you need to replace it.

Bluetooth 5.0 Connectivity and Multipoint Pairing

You get a wireless headphone with Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity technology and you can also conveniently pair to multiple Bluetooth-enabled devices.

a lady on a open and busy street, looking her phone and smiling while listening to music via her tayogo wireless bone conduction headphones. The headphone comes with wireless bluetooth v5.0 connectivity and allows one pair with bluetooth compatible devices like the iOS iphones, android smart phones, smart watches and tablets.

This way you can pair it simultaneously with your Android Bluetooth devices, smartphones, tablets, and Apple iOS iPhones, iPads, Macbooks, PCs, and laptops.

You simply pair by turning on the headphone and wait for a little until the LED begins to flash red and blue. Then from your mobile device, you can search for the Tayogo S2 on the Bluetooth list and then pair it with it. This is how you can also see and monitor the current status of its battery.

At no more than 35 feet, the wireless connection distance is readily maintained. This ensures you get a high output stereo-sounding quality and an all-around stable performer.

The Tayogo S2 bone conduction wireless headphones use Bluetooth v5.0, which is similar to some of the truly wireless earbuds that you can find.

You don’t have to worry about having to deal with entangling wires. You can move with much freedom and cover more distances, without having to be bothered with a wire getting in the way of your exercise regime. You won’t be trapped accidentally along surfaces resulting in the headset being yanked off your head.

The main focus of the S2 headset is to let you be aware of your environment while being able to listen to your favorite music or podcasts (as you work out, jog or bike around).

It works well if it’s not so loud outside; either way, you may need to cover your ears with your hands or by making use of very comfortable earplugs.

The other choice, you will have is to increase the volume, which may get so loud and send dense vibrations across your cheek.

You should find the S2 headphones are easy to use, comfortable, and have a longer battery life to match. If you can’t compromise on sound quality, you should stay away from not only the S2 headphone but all other bone-conduction headsets currently available today on the market.

It may or may not take a while for the technology to catch up to the rest of the conventional headphones, or it may rather sadly never happen, who knows?

For people with varying hearing difficulties may benefit from using the headphones. For others, you may just prefer to stick to using the headset in quiet and calm environments.

Overall, the open-ear design makes this very comfortable to wear all day if needed, and lets you hear callers or listen to music without completely disconnecting from the world around you.

Tayogo S2 Customer Feedback

Below we showcase balanced feedback from actual customers. They have written down their reviews from their own personal experiences with the use of the Tayogo S2 headset.
the s2 bluetooth tayogo headphone

We sourced them from across the web.

Positive Feedback

The first time stumbled upon bone conduction technology was during a book reading session. I was fascinated by it.

Several years back, I worked as a telephone operator and had to wear the Plantronics over-the-ear headset.

You get with them a set of “in-ear buds” which were made of ultra soft plastic, which fitted in my ear canal.

I used to wear a size 3 then, with the largest size being a size 10.

I had very tiny ear openings, and the buds proved to be very comfortable.

With the advent of small headphones which you can “fit” in your ear.

I found that they never fit correctly in my ear.

They hurt quite bad.

And I have always stayed away from the big over the head headphones.

As I do not like wearing any headphone, over my ears on any hot day, thanks but no thanks.

I knew I had to try out a bone conduction technology, as it seemed the very sensible choice for me.

I decided to buy and try out the S2.

They were ready to use out-of-the-box, with the headphone halfway full with some battery juice.

tayogo s2

Setting up the headset was easy.

Boy do I like them so much, I could almost not do anything without them!

The sound was cool for me.

I enjoy listening to Classical music and the headset really did do right to my favorite composers.

I did notice a bit of sound leakage, especially so when I crank up the volume and someone sitting beside me, could hear what I was listening to.

I also found that at higher volumes they do vibrate, but I did not notice any sound distortion from doing that.

I wear them alongside my prescription glasses, and they fit well too.

I usualy take my pet out for a walk and due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, had to always wear a facemask and eye glasses with them on.

We always enjoyed the short walks, while at the same time listening to music and also  paying attention to everything around me.

Whenever my phone rings, there were no troubles automatically switching over to Bluetooth.

The sound quality was remarkable, and my caller had no issues hearing me too.

Charging the S2 headset was both simple and quick. It took the little light about 15 minutes to go from red to blue.

Although, I recent bought them so I have not fully figured out, how long each full charge last.

I would have to update it much later, when I am completely sure.

Overall, they were so comfortable, that whenever the headset was not playing music, I just forget that they were still on my head.

  • Adrienne

a picture demonstrating that the back bands of the tayogo headphones are resilient and durable even to extreme bending

Critical Feedback

They are so comfortable, the voice quality sounds good, with a battery that lasts all day.

I normally walk 40 yards away and find that they still well connected to my smartphone, such that I often forget that I have them on.

However, you should not be expecting Bose quality audio from these, you may find better luck elsewhere.

I take them to work everyday, as I always like listening to music as I work and can also hear everyone around me.

The music quality you get, feels much similar to that of old cassette Walkman headphones.

I found that when I press the headphones close to my head the sound is much better.

But, there’s no way to tighten and adjust the band automatically.

Having to always press the headphones closer to my head meant my hand was not free to do other things.

The only other way to achieve that much improved sound, with my hands free was by wearing a hat or a beanie.

I also bought and gave a pair to my daughter and she often uses them whenever she is exercising on the treadmill or elliptical bike.

However, she always has to use her headband to press them close to her head.

Overall, it has been worth the money spent, save for the non-adjustable band.

Frequently Asked Questions by Customers

Here are the most common frequently asked questions most people want answers to, before buying the Tayogo S2 bone conduction headset.

How do I change my Bluetooth headphone from Chinese to English?

You will need to press and hold both the power and the multifunction button for 2 seconds.

You will hear a voice prompt stating that your headset’s language has been changed to either “English Mode” or “Chinese Mode.”

Is bone conduction safer than earbuds?

YES and NO.

Yes, as it concerns safety in both open and crowded locations. Bone conduction headphones are generally safer than their traditional headphones counterpart, this is due to their open ear design. Making you much more safety conscious, wherever you find yourself at home, at work, or on the road.

No, they both carry similar levels of risk as regards hearing loss, especially for persons with a huge taste for loud music or audio.

a picture describing in detail why you should choose the Tayogo bone-conducting headphones

Can bone-conduction headphones hurt your eardrums?

No, it does not hurt your eardrums. However, bone-conduction headphones can still be a risk factor for the development of hearing loss, for those who like loud sounds.

The CDC has often reiterated the fact that the real trouble with hearing loss, is the likely damage to the cochlea located in the inner ear.

This is usually caused by prolonged exposure to loud sounds or noise, which can damage the hair cells and nerves within the cochlea.

Do you have to wear earplugs with bone-conduction headphones?

No and Yes.

No, because using earplugs defeats both the purpose of the design and the intent of the headset to maintain open ears, for you to be aware of your surroundings.

Yes, because when bone conduction headphones are used together with earplugs, they often times improve the sound quality of the headphones.

This also will depend on the type and quality of earplugs you want to use; foam, reusable, wax, or silicone putty. They can help to improve your headphone’s sound quality (and or volume).

Also, earplugs can help you cope with loud and very noisy environments, as long as the use of the earplugs will not put you in any form of danger.

Where should bone conduction headphones sit?

Bone conduction headphones are designed to be worn from the back of your head.

The curved edge of the headset’s frame should go over your ears, sitting in between your ears and your head.

The headphones’ speakers lie just in front of the tragus of your outer ear.

The part of the headset’s frame or band that goes across the back of your head should be a bit free and hang a bit loosely too.

You can check out the image below for an example.

a young showing how to wear bone conduction headsets properly, with the headphone's speaker in front of the ear

Can earbuds work as earplugs?

No, the ability to filter out noise by earbud-style headphones is not reliable.

They are not designed to form a tight seal around the opening of your ear, as they were not made to keep out to keep out noise.

This is why they are not very reliable to protect your hearing, when you use them in areas rich in background noise, such as airplanes at the airport, trains at the subway train station, etc.

Is the Tayogo S2 waterproof?

No, it is water-resistant and not waterproof. So, do not wear the S2 headphones to swim or get soaked in heavy rainfall.

It says they’re waterproof, can you swim with them?

No, it is only sweatproof. Swimming with it is not recommended and should be discouraged.

Can you wear glasses with headphones?

You may also try using your hair to hold it in place. Or preferably find another similar headphone as recommended.

Where is the light on the headphone to indicate it’s charging?

The LED is located just before the power on/off button and the volumes buttons.

A solid red light glows when the headset is charging and turns blue when it is fully charged.
